Since Anna’s diagnosis, our family has been in a constant flux of emotions. Amidst this one, terrible thing, we have been blessed with many good things. We’ve had gestures of kindness extended to us from complete strangers. The response to Anna’s story has been amazing.
The ”Humor Heals the Heart Benefit” held on May 21st at Deretchin Elementary was one, big, community, Texas-sized gesture!
Thanks to the hard work of the Deretchin PTO, the generosity of the folks at Texas Roadhouse & the Petty Family, and the pure compassion of the Deretchin students, faculty and families, Anna experienced a night she will never forget.
A staggering 1,000 dinner tickets were ordered from Texas Roadhouse, 80 items were donated for the silent auction, the school’s chorus and band performed, and we can’t forget our favorite guest, Andy Armadillo (Thanks, Steele!) Our family was able to see and meet Anna’s many supporters in our new home here in The Woodlands. We were greeted with hugs, smiles, tears, words of encouragement, and offers of prayers.
It was truly remarkable to see people pull together like this for a family they hardly know. It reminds us of the real meaning of neighbor - ”a person who shows kindness or helpfulness toward his or her fellow humans.” A thousand thanks to our Texas neighbors for their kindness and helpfulness. We are so grateful.
